External Events Spotlight by Elizabeth Andrews

Meet Elizabeth Andrews!

She is a second-year biomedical engineer who will be studying abroad this semester in Barcelona, Spain. In addition to being the external events chair at Alpha Xi Delta, Elizabeth is also a member of the BME Society and the American Medical Student Association. In her free time, she loves doing yoga, cooking with friends, traveling to new places, and hosting movie nights. As a huge sports fan, Elizabeth also works Georgia Tech baseball games, selling merchandise and food from the window of the concession stand.

What have you learned and accomplished in this role?

During my time as Alpha Xi's external events chair, we have successfully planned and hosted six mixers, three internal events, and three MC mixers. With something going on nearly every week, I got to experience this role to its fullest potential, and because of that, I was able to learn and grow at an incredibly fast rate. I developed my efficiency, professionalism, time management, creativity, and perhaps most importantly my leadership skills.

When I started, I'll be the first to admit I was in over my head. I adore party planning and scheduling, but at the beginning, my experience was with groups of 30, not 300+. I wasn't yet accustomed to the fast-paced environment in which I now thrive. However, I was not left alone to my own devices. Fatima (our president), Aiden (our chapter life vice president), and Taylor (our events director) were there to teach me the skills and the confidence I needed to succeed. With such incredible women setting the example, I got the hang of things in no time. Soon, I was communicating with venues, coordinating buses, budgeting events, and even replicating Taylor's famous "lab report" documents, complete with tables, schedules, links, finances, and more to help our events run smoothly. Best of all, I got to see the events we worked so hard on come to life. I am truly grateful for my time in this position and the opportunity it gave me to contribute to such an amaxing, cool, fun chapter.
