Dear Best Friend... Love, Lucy

Dear Jaci,

Coming into Tech was scary. Before recruitment, I didn't know many older girls and quite honestly had no idea what I was doing. We met on bid day, and I was mildly terrified. Going from not knowing anyone older to having 100 sisters freaking out and wanting to become your new best friend was so overwhelming in the absolute best way possible. I remember you looked at me and said something like “I like you. We’re going to get along really well.” and it was true. You took me under your wing, answered my incessant questions, and included me in all aspects of your life. You introduced me to some of my favorite study spots and taught me some dos and don'ts of freshman year.

I am so unbelievably thankful for you. When I decided to rush, it was in search of women like you. Smart, capable, kind, funny women who make me want to be better myself. I wanted to find sisters who not only were a good time (which we know you are) but who value the other aspects of life and encourage balance. You are a shoulder to cry on as much as you are someone to absolutely belly laugh with at all hours of the day. As I get older, I aim to emulate the way you carry yourself and the way you treat those you love.

I want to thank you for a plethora of things. Thank you for listening to me and caring about what I have to say. Thank you for including me in your life. Thank you for not writing my problems off as dumb. Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for being right but still giving me the space to figure that on my own. Most of all, thank you for taking a 5th year so we can make more memories for another year. I love you and am proud to call you one of my best friends.

Love,

Lucy Brumbaugh
