Realize Your Potential by Sofia Laskowski
My name is Sofia Laskowski. I am a third year Alpha Xi and business major at Georgia Tech, and I have some wonderful things to share that I have learned this semester so far.
When I look up each day while walking to class, all I can see are blue skies and the leaves changing. Not only that but the weather is colder, Saturdays revolve around football, classes are in full swing, philanthropy events are hosted, and mixers and sisterhood pumpkin carving events are happening. This just goes to say that the fall is a very fun and active time here at Georgia Tech.
However, recently, I have felt very busy. Busy with class and work, friends and fun, applications and interviews, clubs and orgs. For me, it has been a very different year than freshman and sophomore year, that does not mean it’s been bad, but I’ve been required to adapt. Even though many things are changing and moving quickly, I feel that a few things remain constant, one being the support of Alpha Xi Delta. It has come to my attention that amongst the busyness, I can count on members of the sorority to center me and remind me of the things I truly find important. Just taking some time to eat lunch at the house gives me the chance to think about things other than school or that case interview I have coming up. Going to a sisterhood event allows me to meet new members and create fun memories with members. Getting together with sisters to run in the mornings gives me the opportunity to exercise, explore Atlanta, and develop healthy habits. I am so grateful to have such a supportive group of friends who encourage me to engage in activities that will give me a break from work and school.
Currently, I am attempting to decipher what I want to do with my summer, which is very fun but also ambiguous. In the past I worked on a ranch in Wyoming and studied abroad in Europe and now I am identifying potential career paths by pursuing an internship. I think something I have appreciated about Alpha Xi most recently is that each individual goes down unique paths. No matter who you talk to, everyone gets to where they are in a different way. This has reminded me to enjoy the process of discovering new things. I know now that it is hard to put yourself out there because you are vulnerable, but I think soon I will realize that finding comfort in the uncomfortable will pay off. There is no right way to figure out what you are destined to do, but throughout the process I have been encouraged by Alpha Xi Delta members to realize my potential and not let go of life aspects that I value.
Those are two qualities that I have grown to appreciate about Alpha Xi most recently. I feel like each year I am in school the chapter has helped me in new and unique ways. Freshman year Alpha Xi was a great way for me to make friends, get involved, and be surrounded by a great group of women in a relatively large school. Sophomore year I studied abroad with Alpha Xis and was able to create fun memories. Also because of Alpha Xi, I was a Recruitment Counselor during recruitment which gave me a whole new perspective and a chance to interact with the CPC community. And now I am learning even more in my junior year. I am very thankful for the chapter and all that it has offered and continues to offer.
