Our New Member Experience

Hi my name is Isabel Stafford and I’m a third year Public Policy major. This year, I’m New member Orientation Director for Alpha Xi Delta. I’m in charge or integrating new members into our chapter and teaching them everything there is to know about Alpha Xi Delta. I’m so excited to meet all of our new members in the fall at bid day! It’s going to be a great semester with big/little, inspiration week, initiation, and so many other fun events!

Bid Day

Your new member experience begins on Bid Day, our absolute favorite day of the year!! From Day 1, Alpha Xi Delta is welcoming and fun, and older sisters LOVE to shower love on all of the new member class. After a long week of recruitment, our new members will run onto Tech Green, where they’ll meet their new Alpha Xi Delta sisters. Our sisters excitedly welcome our new members by blasting music, covering ourselves with glitter, blowing bubbles, dancing, and, of course, taking our signature Bid Day pictures! Bid Day is your first opportunity to meet older sisters and your fellow new members. As a new member, you’re sure to feel the excitement and joy we all get from adding more people to our sisterhood and we know that Bid Day is a memory you’ll cherish forever!

Run for the Roses

A few days after Bid Day, all of Greek Life at Georgia Tech participates in our favorite tradition: Run for the Roses! Our new Alpha Xi Delta members have a chance to bond with their member class and get to meet the new member classes from each fraternity on campus. Our new members run from fraternity house to fraternity house, where they’re serenaded by the fraternity brothers and given roses! We all wear cute sundresses and rompers, but it’s even more important to wear running shoes so you can sprint between the houses. Through all of the sweat, Run for the Roses is an amazing memory and a great opportunity to get closer with your new sisters!!

Bear-Buddy Dates

Our current Alpha Xi sisters are always so excited to get to know our new members in the first few months of school. In Alpha Xi Delta, we do this through Bear-Buddy dates!! Bear-Buddy dates, which are named for our mascot, BetXi Bear, are an opportunity for our new members to connect with older sisters in the chapter. Each week, new members will be invited on a date with a current sister. Whether it’s a trip to get ice cream at Jeni’s or hanging out at someone’s pool, these dates are always a ton of fun and a great way to get to know each other. A lot of sisters end up meeting their future Big on a Bear-Buddy date!

Big-Little Reveal

One of our favorite weeks of the year is Big-Little Reveal Week! Each day of the week leading up to reveal, Bigs leave their Littles a basket of surprises at the house. The baskets are filled with tons of Alpha Xi Delta t-shirts, candy, and most importantly, clues! Our new members spend hours looking at their baskets and trying to figure out who their Big is, but lots of times their Bigs leave false clues about themselves to try and trick their Little.

The week culminates in Big Little Reveal! Your Big will give you some kind of costume or theme to dress up as and then you’ll finally find out who she is! You’ll also get the chance to meet your Grandbig and Great-Grandbig this day, and be initiated into your own sorority fam. This is always one of our new members favorite memories!

Initiation

Initiation marks the end of your new member period and the beginning of your time as a fully initiated Alpha Xi Delta sister! In the week leading up to initiation, called Inspiration Week, our new members participate in many beloved traditions all leading up to our Initiation ceremony. We are all so excited to add to our Alpha Xi Delta sisterhood this fall and welcome more strong women into our sorority!!
