Atlanta's Black-Owned Restaurants
Black-Owned Restaurants near Georgia Tech
When the Black Lives Matter movement took over social media this summer, many of us (myself included), had to evaluate ourselves, what we were doing to support the movement against racial injustice, and what we could be doing more of. You can find Alpha Xi Delta’s list of resources and action items here, but today I wanted to share a great way to support Black business owners: to eat at their restaurants!
All of these restaurants can be found less that 1½ miles off campus and are SO delicious. The ones I’ve tried, I’ll review. The ones that I haven’t, I’ll bring sisters to try with me this fall.
What I’ve Tried So Far:
Triple Jay’s Pizza
Hands down some of the best pizza near campus. You can choose between New York (thin crust) and Detroit (thick crust) style, but you really can’t go wrong! Order some to go and then head to nearby Piedmont Park for a picnic!
Urban Grind
This adorable coffee shop is right off campus and the perfect place for your weekend homework grind! I personally love the vintage furniture and uber-comfortable couches, but what makes this coffee shop special is the people and the friendly, welcoming atmosphere.
Sublime Doughnuts
This doughnut shop is a Georgia Tech staple. It’s open 24-hours and literally across the street from West Campus. They have dozens of totally unique flavors- it’ll take all 4(ish) years to try them all! My personal favorite so far is the A-town Mocha.
The Nook on Piedmont Park
This restaurant is perfect for a nice Friday night dinner out with friends. Their specialty? Totchos, aka tater tot nachos, aka revolutionary. While we have Totchos occasionally at the house, this meal comes with a beautiful view of Atlanta’s biggest (and prettiest) greenspace.
What’s on my List:
Atlanta Breakfast Club
This restaurant serves Southern breakfast - and I have heard such good things about it.
9 Mile Station
This restaurant is on the roof of the Ponce City market and has the best view. They serve Brunch and Dinner and I can’t wait to try it!
