Internship Spotlight by Blaine Kantor

Hi! My name is Blaine Kantor, and I am a third-year Public Policy major. This spring, I am spending the semester as a representative of Georgia Tech’s Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts in the Georgia Legislative Internship Program (GLIP). A group of students from Georgia colleges and universities are chosen to work at the Georgia State Capitol. Not only have I really enjoyed getting to watch the legislative process take place in real time, I’ve also seen the behind the scenes planning, teamwork, and research required to present bills to the floor.

How does this experience relate to Alpha Xi Delta? I would not be working at the Capitol if it weren't for my Alpha Xi sister, Lucy Brumbaugh. Lucy is also a third-year Public Policy major, who worked in the GLIP program last spring (2022). As I was looking for an internship last fall to complete our major requirement, Lucy kept encouraging me to apply, introduced me to her work colleagues, read my application essay, and even helped me pick out my outfit for my interview. Lucy was the first person I told when I got offered the job a few weeks later and has been a great support as I navigate the internship. The best part is, I still get to see her during the work week because she came back to the Capitol this year as a lobbyist. This example is just one of many instances when your involvement on campus overlaps with your career development.

I am so thankful for the many friendships and experiences that Alpha Xi has given me while at Tech. The women of our chapter are driven to succeed and also committed to serving our community. Alpha Xi Delta sisters can encourage you to expand your world-view, push you past your comfort zone, and help you grow personally and professionally. These are some of the many reasons I chose Alpha Xi Delta.

Xoxi,

Blaine Kantor
