Dear Future Little... Love, Allie Vela

Dear Future Little:

I know we haven’t met yet, but there are so many things I have to say to you. I have no idea what you look like, where you went to high school, what town you grew up in, or what your dreams are. I don’t know your favorite color, favorite movie, or your celebrity crush. I have no idea if you prefer Nutella over peanut butter, chocolate over vanilla, or Coke over Pepsi. I don’t know all your secrets, or what makes you angry.

Your life is a complete mystery to me. We have never spoken, and I have never heard your voice or seen your eyes light up when you talk about something you love. We’ve never linked arms while walking in heels or belted out our hearts to “Hollaback Girl”. We’ve never talked for hours about absolutely nothing or danced around like idiots to our favorite songs in our pajamas.

But all of that and more will happen soon!

I cannot believe that the time for me to finally meet you and get to know you is finally here! After being in Alpha Xi for only one semester, I’m so excited to be your big, and you’re the reason why.

From the first time I visited Alpha Xi, I instantly noticed the love and connection each girl has with their fam. It’s one of the most special characteristics about the chapter and one of the most meaningful connections I have made at Georgia Tech so far.

What is so fun about Big/Little at Alpha Xi is the experience of going on Bear Buddy “dates” with initiated members and getting to know more girls one-on-one. I went on coffee dates, brunches, and ice cream socials with several girls who have now become some of my closest friends. I loved every date that I went on.

However, choosing Jessica as my Big was one of the easiest decisions I have ever made. I knew of her before coming to Tech, but during sisterhood retreat, we connected instantly. One of the things I will never forget is how much Jess tricked me during Inspiration Week. She had given me hints in my basket such as:

  1. I’m a first year

  2. I have a brother

  3. I’m from out-of-state

And then also wrote that they were all lies, so I had no idea who she was! It made the reveal all the more exciting, so don’t expect me to go easy on you!

For me, big and little goes past a mentor and mentee relationship; to me, you are now considered as part of my family away from home. As my little, I want you to be comfortable coming to me about anything and everything. I will never judge you and I promise to always be your biggest supporter in everything you do.

My sorority family has truly given me a home away from home and that is why I am more than thrilled to add another member to our family this year! My fam goes above and beyond to make sure that I feel loved and am safe at all times. We’ve had sleepovers, spin class dates with acai bowls at Upbeet afterwards, and trips to the Humane Society to name a few. I can honestly say that because of them, I am thriving in my college experience and I hope more than anything I can offer you the same.

I have spent most of quarantine preparing for your arrival. I don’t consider myself a crafty person, but I’ve crafted like I never have before, thought of fun ways to spoil you, and even have a Pinterest board with ideas for our reveal outfits - all before even knowing your name.

Do you want to know the best part about all of this? You have no idea who I am and I won't have any idea who you are for quite awhile. I cannot wait for all the memories we'll make over the following years to come.

I'm counting down the days until you run home to our fam!

I hope you're ready to be a part of my big, craxi, beautiful fam.

With all Xi Love,

Allie
