Dear Best Friend... Love, Emma
Dear Mackenzie,
I can’t believe we are about to start our fourth year as roommates! I feel like it was yesterday we were moving into our freshman dorm together. At the time, I had no idea the girl I met on Facebook would not only become my sorority sister, but my best friend. I will never forget the excitement I felt when we opened our Bids on Bid Day and became sisters. Our freshman year held lots of new adventures from buying our fish, attended our first Atlanta United Games, enjoying a snow day, and becoming friends with our member class. This was just the beginning of so many amazing memories we have created over our three years at Georgia Tech. Not only have we had so many fun times together, but I know this is just the beginning of our lifelong friendship.
While it feels like we just moved into our freshman dorm, I also look back and see how much our friendship has grown over the years. We have become so close and share everything with each other. We have been there for each other through the ups and downs of college and life- bad grades, dumb boys, and even pandemics. I am thankful we are able to celebrate each other’s successes and comfort one another during challenging situations.
Not only has our friendship grown over the years, but you have helped me grow as a person. You help ground me and teach me how to center myself when I get flustered. You have shown me how to go with the flow and not be so high strung. Academically, I look to you as an example of how to succeed at Georgia Tech. You have taught me how to pick myself up after I get a bad grade on a test and to never give up on my goals. Although I might complain, I’m even grateful when you make me eat my vegetables!
From getting ready for formals, living in the sorority house, and attending Alpha Xi events you have become a huge part of my life and I cannot imagine college without you. While I am sad we only have one year left as roommates, I know you will continue to be a big part of my life always. Thank you for agreeing to be my freshman roommate and my best friend.
