Study Abroad Spotlight by Dani Diaz

Reflecting on my study abroad experience this summer as I book my flight back home from France, I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the incredible experiences and lifelong friendships I have gained. When I first arrived at Georgia Tech, I always had the desire to participate in the GTE study abroad program. Discovering that many of my Alpha Xi sisters would be joining me in this adventure filled me with excitement. From exploring Prague to wandering the streets of Dublin, I have had the opportunity to see the world alongside my closest friends and sisters.

Throughout this summer, starting from the moment I set foot in France, I have come to truly appreciate the unwavering support system I have in my fellow Alpha Xis. While this experience has had its fair share of challenges, from stolen phones to missed trains, being surrounded by my sisters has kept me positive and motivated.

Studying abroad has pushed me outside of my comfort zone and allowed me to develop valuable life skills. I have become more independent, adaptable, and resilient as I navigated unfamiliar environments, faced language barriers, and embraced new experiences.

Whether it's something as trivial as deciding what to cook for dinner or facing a crisis like finding ourselves stranded overnight in a train station, I find immense comfort in knowing that I have a network of people who are always there to lend a helping hand during this incredible adventure. I have had the privilege of exploring ten different countries, each leaving me with countless cherished memories.

From walking around the cliffs of Moher, paragliding in Switzerland, swimming in the Black Forest, and reuniting with Alpha Xis participating in the Oxford program, all of these moments will forever hold a special place in my heart.

The memories from my study abroad journey with my sisters are invaluable gifts. They encompass thrilling adventures, unexpected mishaps, and heartwarming connections. These experiences have become a cherished part of my life, reminding me of the incredible moments we shared together.

Wishing you all xi best,

Dani Diaz
