Sisterhood Spotlight by Allison Adams

Hey everyone!

My name is Allison Adams, and I am Alpha Xi Delta’s current sisterhood director!

Being sisterhood director has been such an amazing and rewarding experience. I have gotten to know more sisters in my chapter, learned a lot about leadership, and been pushed out of my comfort zone. As sisterhood director, my primary goal is to plan a variety of sisterhood events each month. This ranges from off campus events like the ATL United Game, the annual trip to Dr. Bombay’s Underwater Tea Party, or the finals week event at the trampoline park, as well as more relaxed events including a charcuterie board making event at the house and a walk to the Piedmont Park farmer’s market. At every event, I am able to talk with sisters I don’t know as well, and it has encouraged me to get to know so many more people and to stay involved with Alpha Xi! My favorite event this past semester was the pot painting and succulent planting event at the house. Everyone got to decorate a mini flowerpot and plant a mini succulent, and it was so fun to see everyone’s creativity!

Beyond the fun of being able to plan and attend every sisterhood event, Alpha Xi’s sisterhood director plans the semesterly sisterhood retreat. At the sisterhood retreat this past spring, I loved working with the planning committee to come up with team themes, fun games, and bonding activities to put on a full day retreat. It was so rewarding to see all the planning pay off and experience the fun day with everyone! Fall overnight retreat planning is in the works right now, and I can’t wait for the first overnight retreat since I have been at Tech!

Working as our chapter’s sisterhood director has pushed me out of my comfort zone, and I have improved so many skills, including project management, event planning, and how to collaborate and delegate efficiently. Most importantly, I have been encouraged by those around me to be the best version of myself. Sisterhood director has enriched my leadership skills and given me more confidence.

I am so glad that I decided to apply for sisterhood director last fall. In this position, I have seen each sister’s unique personality that makes Alpha Xi’s sisterhood so strong. I have also gained such an appreciation for the sisterhood in Alpha Xi Delta and the life-long memories I’ve made with sisters at these events. I am looking forward to everything we have planned for the fall, and I can’t wait to share it with the chapter!

XOXI,

Allison
