February Flashback!
For the sisters of Alpha Xi Delta, this past month has been nothing short of eventful. From hosting an Atlanta Hawks date night and participating in a sisterhood retreat to welcoming nine new members and attending Atlanta United’s season-opener game, our chapter did it all and more! Interested to see what kept our sisters so busy? Continue reading for a rundown of February’s festivities!
Movie Night
To kick off our chapter’s jam-packed schedule, sisters held a movie night in the basement of our house on February 1st, complete with buttery popcorn, delicious sweets, and a viewing of Valentine’s Day. Snuggled on couches and under fuzzy blankets, we bonded over the ridiculous, yet endearing, moments of the cheesy Rom-Com. Needless to say, it had even the most cynical among us looking forward to this month’s holiday of love!
Xi’s & Resumes
A few days later, just before the bi-annual career fair made its appearance in McCamish Pavilion, our sisters organized a resume workshop at our house. Those interested in passing on their tips and tricks of scoring an internship or landing a dream job signed up to assist other sisters in fine-tuning their resumes. Knowing that the career fair can be a source of stress even for the most polished and prepared student, our sisters wanted to create a space where anyone could drop-in, receive encouragement, and leave with advice on how to achieve their goals.
Philanthropy
On February 8th, our chapter participated in a joint philanthropy project with the brothers of ATO. We packaged candy and made Valentine’s Day cards for elementary-aged children in the Atlanta area. So many turned out for the cause that we finished the project in record time, and we were so glad of the opportunity to spread a little love and cheer to those in need.
Date Night
Courtesy of the hard work of our chapter’s social events directors, we were able to host an Atlanta Hawks Date Night on February 11th. To match the night’s theme of Jarty in the USA, sisters and their dates dressed to the nines in denim and red, white, and blue apparel. After taking a bus over to State Farm Arena, we cheered on the Hawks as they battled against the San Antonio Spurs. While munching on yummy treats from the concession stand, our sisters and their dates enjoyed a great night of entertainment. It was a memorable evening for all, especially for the die-hard sports fans!
Sisterhood Retreat
The Sunday following our date night, our chapter rose bright and early to participate in a day chalk full of various games and challenges designed to strengthen our sisterhood at the Pine Acres Retreat Center. Our sisters were divided into teams, each sporting a different theme from PJs to Cowboys to Rock n Roll, and competed in activities like Alpha Xi Jeopardy and Sisterhood Family Feud. Our Chapter Life Team treated us by ordering Chipotle burritos for lunch and even rewarded the winning group, the Jersey Team, with Starbucks gift cards for earning the most points during the competition. It was a day of learning about what makes each of our sisters tick. We laughed. We cried. We saw each other in a new light. The retreat reminded us that although we may think we know all that is worth knowing about the sister sitting next to us, there is always another secret or tidbit or detail to discover. We just have to be open enough and brave enough to ask.
Big Little Week
The next morning, overflowing baskets of goodies in the Alpha Xi House parlor signaled the start of Big/Little week. We were honored and ecstatic to welcome nine new members this spring, and it has been an absolute joy to get to know the fresh faces in our chapter. Over the course of four days, our new members received anonymous gifts from their Bigs and awaited eagerly for their Greek Family reveal. That Thursday night, dressed in a theme of their Big’s choosing, the Littles busted through a large paper banner and ran straight into the arms of their families. We are beyond excited that these new members decided to make Alpha Xi Delta their home away from home, and we hope our new sisters love their new families as much as we love them.
Wellness Event
The following weekend, our chapter’s Wellness Chair organized an Alpha Xi spin class at Rukus Cycling Studio, and it was a huge success! So many sisters were thrilled for the opportunity to try a new type of workout with their fellow Xis, and it’s safe to say that the sore legs were definitely worth the experience. We have a feeling that a few sisters will become recurring faces at Rukus, and we can’t wait to see what group exercise class our Wellness Chair will plan next!
SigEp Social
Our chapter rounded out that weekend with a S’mores Social with SigEp on Sunday night. A bunch of Alpha Xis walked over to the fraternity’s house for a viewing of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and a chance to roast marshmallows over the fire they set up in their front yard. While chomping on s’mores and sipping on hot coco, sisters were able to meet and mingle with the brothers of SigEp. Our more competitive sisters even challenged some of the boys to a friendly game of ping pong, which they won, of course ;) Overall, the night’s relaxed vibes ensured that everyone had a great time, and we’re looking forward to organizing another kickback with them in the future!
If at this point you’re thinking, Okay, this has got to be the end. Surely, Alpha Xi couldn’t squeeze any more events into a month with only 28 days… Well, here’s a little secret: if a sister of Alpha Xi has a will, there is most certainly a way!
Delta Chi Mixer
One of our last events of February included a mixer with Delta Chi. The mixer’s theme of Hometown Throwdown had sisters dressed up in clothing that showcased where they came from (unsurprisingly, sports team jerseys were the most popular choice of the night), and we had a fabulous time singing, dancing, and socializing with the brothers of Delta Chi.
Sisterhood Event
And finally, we concluded our busy February with a sisterhood outing to Atlanta United’s opening game of the season. Embracing the public transportation spirit, our sisters hopped on a Marta train to make the journey from GT to Mercedes-Benz Stadium, and to say the least, riding the crowded train cars was definitely an experience that brought us closer together, both figuratively and quite literally! At the game, our sisters cheered on Atlanta United as they defeated Sporting Kansas City, and we appreciated, naturally, the chance to munch on some delicious concession stand grub, including soft pretzels, cheesy nachos, and a scoop or two of ice cream!
If you’ve stuck with us as we’ve reached the end of our February recap, you’re a trooper. We hope you’ve enjoyed reliving the last month with us, but even more we hope this delve into our chapter’s busy schedule has shown you the genuine love we have for spending time together during both the small and really big moments of college life.
