Dear Best Friend... Love, Katie

Dear Aubrey,

It’s truly rare to find someone who I feel as comfortable with, supported by, and inspired by as I do you. Although I’ve only been in Alpha Xi for just a semester, I can’t imagine my time here without you.

I remember meeting you for the first time, when you were just the roommate of a friend I had made over summer semester. I had no idea just how important you’d become to me.

As we went through the rush process, we did not speak about our preferences or the houses we liked until after Preference Day. I remember standing outside of our dorm, when I told you I chose Alpha Xi, and you told me the same, and how I jumped into your open arms into the biggest hug. In that moment, I knew that I had absolutely made the right choice. I knew I was where I was meant to be.

You are the most caring, empathetic, funny, motivated, and overall incredible person I’ve had the pleasure of meeting here at Tech. You inspire me, in your ability as an empath and an intellectual. You’ve given me some of the best advice, have always made me feel heard, and kept an open door just a few down from mine for me at any time. Your driven and organized manner moves me to want to become more like you. Your goals for the future, your care and consideration for everyone around you, and your passion are just a few of your most defining characteristics I look up to.

Alpha Xi has brought us even closer together, and for that I am eternally grateful. You have taught me what sisterhood is supposed to look like, leading consistently by example, and embodying the spirit of courage, graciousness, and peace. I see you go out of your way to talk to sisters, form friendships, and love everybody around you. You are, to me, what it means to be a sister of Alpha Xi Delta.

I’ve enjoyed every minute of being in Alpha Xi with you, from Bid Day, to Semi, to any Sisterhood events we’ve attended together. You’ve pushed me to step outside my comfort zone to grow and connect with other sisters, and even after just a semester, I can feel myself branching out more and more. My time in Alpha Xi has really helped me grow as an individual, and you’ve supported me in sustaining this.

I am endlessly filled with gratitude that our paths have crossed in this way and absolutely overjoyed at the prospect of the years to come in our friendship and in Alpha Xi.
