Why We Love Greek Week!! (by Susannah Cole)
My 10 Favorite things about Greek Week!
Greek Week is a week-long competition where all Sororities and Fraternities compete in different competitions to gain points throughout the week. I have been able to both compete in Greek Week for Alpha Xi Delta and have also served on Greek Week exec to put on the events for the Greek community (while earning Alpha Xi points as well of course). Greek Week has evolved over the years at Tech to have some super fun traditions and have ways to show off so many different people’s talents from Hackathons to Dodgeball. Here are my 10 favorite things about Greek Week:
1. Alpha Xi Spirit
This is the best time a year to get to show off your pride for Alpha Xi Delta! I love getting to cheer on my sisters and show off my love for Alpha Xi to the whole campus!
2. CPC Pan-love
While the week is all about competition amongst sororities, I love how it always brings out my love for the overall Greek community at Tech. It is so fun to compete against and watch friends in other chapters show off their skills!
3. TUG!!!!
This is one of my favorite Greek Tech traditions! We start training months in advance for a tug of war competition in a pit of mud. Everyone shows up to watch this intense battle, but beware - spectators are often soaked in mud by the end! See the pictures at the bottom of this post!!
4. Greek Sing
My freshman year, I got the chance to compete in the event that ends the week-long competition: Greek Sing. We spend months preparing for a mini-musical. I love seeing the Singing/Dancing/Artistic talents of all of my sisters during this event!
5. Super Splash
A belly flop competition filled with pop culture/meme/vine/TikTok references. What’s more to love? I will never forget watching one of my fellow MC ‘17 members, Anna Bonatz, doing a belly-flop to the Mason Ramsey Yodeling Remix.
6. Greek Goddess
7. Spectating with your Sisters!
8. Giving back
Including Tech Beautification Day & Red Cross Blood Drive!
